You need a new vet. Get a 2nd opinion from another vet in your area.

Your dog can’t be treated safely by a bunch of people online. Please get a 2nd opinion. You can also ask your vet for an Internist referral.

You dog is probably miserable. Please don’t wait for us to answer you with something that may or may not work. Ask friends and family, call several good doggie daycare and boarding places and ask for good vets, ask your groomer. There’s a good vet within a couple of miles of you and will help you figure out what is wrong with your dog.

Wow, you need to go back to your vet and let them know the medication isn’t working, or get a new vet asap. If he is unable to pass urine, he is going to die. It’s not the vet’s fault that the medicine isn’t working, and doesn’t necessarily mean your vet doesn’t know what he/she is doing. It’s always best to try medicine first, but if it doesn’t work, your dog may need surgery. You have to let the vet know what’s happening. Just like with people–let’s say you have high blood pressure and the doctor puts you on a medication. If it doesn’t work, you don’t wait until you die from a heart attack or stroke, you go back to the doctor and get a different prescription.

I know that in people, the herb Saw Palmetto, which you can buy in the vitamin/supplement isle of any drug store, helps reduce the prostate, but I don’t know if this is safe for dogs, and it’s for long term use, not an emergency situation, which is what you have on your hands. Please call your vet.

There are ways for the vet to drain your dog’s bladder to make him more comfortable, such as with a urinary catheter. my question is about “got sick from the dog food”. Are you talking about the dog food recall that we had a few months ago? I heard about the food messing with kidneys, but not prostate. How can you be sure it was the dog food? Also, if they know it’s the prostate, they should be able to do a surgical procedure to alleviate this. Find a new vet!!!
